Team WBR Suzuki 2/3 Force at Unadilla – Sipes in Top 10

July 16, 2006

New Berlin, NY – July 16, 2006 – Team WBR Suzuki headed into the 6th round of the Toyota AMA Motocross Championship with high hopes of having a good finish. The venerable and historic Unadilla track was gnarly as usual with many riders discovering the sharp edge of the tracks fickle personality. One of those to feel the sting was Ryan Morais. Things were looking good early on in practice; but in his qualifying heat, Morais suffered an injury that kept him out of the program. At the time of this writing it is suspected that Ryan may have sprained his knee, definitive news will be in the next update.

Although disappointed not to have a full triumvirate, Team WBR raced on. At the end of the day WBR came home with a top ten finish for Ryan Sipes (9th) and a top twenty for Brian Gray (19th).

This was the comeback race for Sipes who has been sidelined since January. “I was really excited to be back,” said Sipes after the race. “The track was great and I had a lot of fun. It was a blast.”

Sipes was mad at having two bad starts after coming out of the gates so strongly in the qualifying heat. “I know I can do better, but I was just glad to be back out there.”

Team owner Brad Williams was also pleased to see Number 36 back on the track. “A top ten finish is always great, but for someone being out for six months, it was really icing on the cake.”

Williams also hinted at some upcoming news. Looks like Team WBR Suzuki is going to be growing significantly next season. The roster could sport a few more names and the sponsor list will be carrying some “stellar” names.

Engine & pipe sponsor Yoshimura’s Brant Russell feels good about next season with WBR, “This has been one of those years where the team has had to overcome a lot of adversity. These guys have been doing a great job considering the bad luck.” Russell also said that Yoshimura has gone into a multi-year agreement with the team. “The WBR team is going to expand quite a bit next season and we are happy to be a part of that effort. The new RMZ250 Suzukis have shown great potential over in Japan already. That, combined with the growth of this organization holds great promise for the future.”
